This book is a multi-disciplinary effort at reflecting the new challenges facing the EU in particular issues. It includes selected studies, which attempt to deal with issues in various economic, institutional, legal and political areas. The challenges, which influenced development in the EU after the end of the Cold War, but especially after 2008, are the joint topic of the papers presented here. Most of them draw a theoretical framework in which the particular issues are analyzed and generalized. Contributions presented in this book document the fact that if Europe wants to withstand inthe changing global envitonment, it must strengthen its capacity to do so, as well as its ability to provide good governance to the EU. The current integration process oofers many opportunities to do this, however, many of them remain unused. Accepted and emerging visions, of course, cannot be realized from one day to the next, rather, gradually, step by step.
